One of the major aspects of my architectural work, and probably my greatest strength, is that I have been very fortunate to develop a wealth of experiences to draw on in my work, both by education and through professional experience.

With an undergraduate degree from Colgate University in History, coupled with lifelong interests in fine craftsmanship, art, reading, and playing sports, my practice is based on much more than just the typical architectural curriculum.  I firmly believe that this breadth of interests helps foster better communication, and thus the ability to create relationships that lead to better designs through collaboration and teamwork with you, the client.

Further, having spent more than a decade as a carpenter and cabinetmaker, with electrical and plumbing and heating experience sprinkled in for good measure, I have worked in diverse locations ranging from my original home state of Vermont, to North Carolina, Colorado, Hawaii, and Massachusetts.  Not only has this afforded me a great deal of firsthand knowledge of how to design and build in numerous styles and widely varying climates, but I have also witnessed the pros and cons of a variety of regional building strategies.  These experiences lead to architectural design suitable for a given project based on an efficient use of resources throughout the design and construction process, including the all-important financial aspects.

In my practice I am looking to build lasting relationships with clients that facilitate clear communication of project goals and needs – listening and responding to you, the client, is the most critical step in making any project successful.  Then, with the project goals in-hand, I draw on my combined experiences as both an architect and a former builder to develop thoughtful, creative design solutions appropriate to the project.
